Sherlock's Butchers is a craft butcher shop in a small village-like estate called Cartron nestled beside the bay of Sligo's Garavogue River. A recent refurbishment of the inside prompted the owner to seek some branding solutions for use on interior and exterior signage as well as a vehicle wrap design.
Having done work for several butchers before, the tricky part is usually trying to incorporate imagery without using raw meat or animal imagery, which can be unappetizing. While many of us enjoy the taste of the end product, the process is generally not what we want to think about or be confronted with. Still, many butchers will use a diagram illustrating the cuts made on livestock on their signage, or blood red lettering for their logo! I wanted to avoid this, and put the focus on the personality of the butcher, his tools and skills.
